Diane Arbus

In your posts you will need to discuss  the journey that Portraiture has taken over its' history. For example the movement from Rich and Powerful people having expensive portraits made for them to the works of Portraiture photographers depicting the inner conflicts and catching their subjects in moments when they are least prepared.

Diane Arbus unlike other artists took photographs of people that were out of the extraordinary  different but still human. The photographs consisted of dwarfs, giants, transgenders + even nudists. Her portraits of photography consisted of people looking normal but there normality contained of deep feeling and the people felt ugly. People would often find Diane Arbus's photography harsh or that she really wanted to see sadness in the person she was taking shots of, the truth was Diane wanted the person she was taking shots of to show there true feeling and the depth of there current situation. When Diane Arbus did her photography shots she wanted to represent the people she was taking shots of in a different way to any other photographer and that was to take pictures showing there flaws and not editing the pictures to make them look "perfect"

Arbus grew up in a Jewish family who were lucky enough to be wealthy. Although the family were lucky to be wealthy Arbus grew up in "The Great Depression" meaning that Arbus would feel the effects from the depression.

The picture I have used to demonstrate Diane Arbus's photography work is a picture of a young girl who grew up in a well mannered family but if you look at the picture Arbus has made the picture as the girl looking very depressed looking, you can see that the girl in the picture looks very emotionally drained. Diane really wanted her pictures to look how the person felt, not telling them what to do in a way which the person would feel uncomfortable or fake.

Fashion Photography Questions.

Fashion Photography

In todays assignment I am looking at the manipulation of fashion photography and how they portray the model who has been shot from the photographer. It seems the general public believe everything they see from magazines, newspapers or billboards when looking at photos of 'perfect' models. The lie of it all is that in the fashion photography industry they believe that these models that they are photographing look nice, but truthfully when going through there work they decide to manipulate the picture in to making the model look 'amazing' so the question I am an answering today is;

To what degree should an image manipulated to go into a fashion magazine?

I believe that there is a high set of manipulation when the fashion industry decide to put photos into popular magazines just like 'Vogue'  when taking the photo the way it's structured and shown is completely different to what they decide to publish on to there magazines. The magazines decide to make photos they are, lets say 'portraying' looks perfect and what they WANT the scene and model to look like instead of what the model REALLY looks like.  When I watched the video of 'The September Issue' which showed exclusive behind the scenes footage of how the fashion industry exactly worked and it seemed that the crew were very persistent with what they wanted the model to wear, if the clothing was not high of there imagination or what they had in mind then they would get angry and annoyed with the concept of what they wanted for the photoshoot.

Photography this year.

Hello, and welcome to my photography blog, I currently use a Blackberry 9,300 to take pictures on my phone. I am interested in taking pictures of a variety of stuff, from nature to landscape, when taking pictures of nature and landscape i like to show the history and what the atmosphere was like. I am hoping to achieve a lot in this course and invest in a new camera.
